The Chosun Ilbo has stopped providing news content to Internet portal Daum Communications (www.daum.net) as of Monday midnight. Daum has ignored illegal acts by netizens on its site, including threats, defamation and work disruption against companies that place ads in the Chosun and other major conservative dailies. The portal has also continuously violated news copyrights.
The Chosun Ilbo and Daum had been discussing renewing their news supply contract which expired in late December, but the newspaper finally decided to end the supply over Daum’s insensible and unethical behavior. The JoongAng and Dong-A Ilbo newspapers have also announced a halt to their news supplies to the portal, citing Daum’s continued slander and copyright violations.
