Online Shopping Website for Foreigners in Korea
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 Online Shopping Website for Foreigners in Korea It seems that foreigners living in Korea can now shop online in the Korean web space without going through much trouble. Buythekorea, a Korean online shopping mall targeting foreigners residing in Korea, opened for service today. Buythekorea offers variety of services including online shopping for consumer electronics in competitive prices and opening of accounts for internet and cell phone.
For the convenience of foreigners, Buythekorea provides its service entirely in English, everything from product description to confirmation mail or mobile text messages, and most of all, its users are not required to enter Korean resident registration number unlike most of other Korean websites. Additionally, Buythekorea tries to make the payment procedure much easier for foreigners by taking all internationally accepted credit cards which are not generally accepted in other websites in Korea. In order to figure out the demand patterns of foreigners, Buythekorea is currently running ‘Item Request’ service where customers can request for items that are not sold at the web site.
“Despite the fact that more and more foreigners are coming to live in Korea, many of the basic services are very inconvenient for foreigners to use. Trying to resolve those problems and difficulties that foreigners go through, I came to open Buythekroea to serve their unattended needs and to also bring more positive web experience in the web environment of a country that claims as an IT nation.” Andy Kim, the representative of Buythekorea, said. According to Ministry of Public Administration and Security of Korea, the number of foreigners residing in Korea (more than 90 days) was 722,686 as of April 2007, showing a 35% increase since a year before. The Ministry predicts that the number will soon reach 1 million in the near future.
