The government plans to inaugurate an online Dokdo Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, an official of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) said Thursday
The Dokdo office would be responsible for collecting and keeping track of public responses to Dokdo policies and issues, in keeping with its role as the intermediary between the public and the government in their mutual endeavors on the islet’s security, he said.
“With the inauguration of the online Dokdo office, the government hopes to create the cyber space in which the public and the government can share the framework of dialogue on Dokdo,” said the official.
The cyber Dokdo office scheduled to open in May is to have a total of nine subdivisions, including an international public information and Historical Corrections Advisory divisions.
MOMAF plans to hire civilians for all the positions opening at this new office, and the application process for the position of administrator will start next Monday on MOMAF internet homepage at www.momaf.go.kr.
The hiring process for the rest of staffs will start in May with the opening of the office, and the office will swing into a full operation in June.
The Dokdo office is to advise the government on its ongoing policies and plans on Dokdo, said the ministry official.
Its Internet homepage will feature “Our Dokdo,” the introduction of the islet, a “Dokdo School” for kids, “Marine Policy” for posting opinions on the government’s Dokdo policies, a “Dokdo Gallery” showing photo shots and video recordings of the islet, and “Allim Pada (Sea of Announcements)” for announcements and news on Dokdo.
The Internet homepage will also provide an online service for those who wish to send e-mail thank you notes to the coast guard personnel stationed on the islet.
