Internet Protocol TV services will be available from October. The Korea Communications Commission in a general meeting on Thursday approved the basic plan for choosing IPTV service providers.

The KCC decided to take applications for IPTV service providers on Aug. 28-29 and review them from Sept. 2 to 5. In the communications industry, KT, Hanaro Telecom, LG Dacom and Daum are expected to submit applications.

A panel of broadcasting and communications experts will review the applications based on business plans submitted by the companies, looking at six categories. They include public accountability, fairness and public benefit. Applicants must be companies whose majority shares are owned by Koreans.
