Samsung Prepares Android Phone For 2009

World’s second largest mobile handset manufacturer Samsung Electronics seems all set to unleash a new range of handsets powered by Google’s Android platform, sometime in the second quarter of next year, according to a Korean news report.

As per recent reports from Korea’s ETNews, Samsung will be releasing the new Android-based handsets on Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA.

The reports further asserted that the new devices would feature full touchscreen technology, just as their already existing Behold on T-Mobile, and Instinct on Sprint.

An official representative from Samsung Electronics told that the company is “accelerating” development of mobile handsets based on Google’s Android platform, and notified that a finished product is expected to be released within US in second quarter of next year.

In addition, the representative asserted that the goal of the company is to “meet the specific need of local carriers”, for launching the handset in US.

Samsung has reportedly been trying out its hands on developing Android-based handset for around one year, and along the same line, it has formed a team of 30 experts to develop the required Java and Linux codes for the release.

However, US press representatives from Samsung, as well as spokespersons from T-Mobile and Sprint, declined to comment on these reports.
