Korean-brand televisions are excelling in the U.S. According to the latest report from U.S. market research firm National Purchase Diary, sales of Korean digital televisions took first place last year.
The report shows that one in three Americans who bought a new digital television in 2008 purchased one made by a Korean firm.
Digital TVs by Korean brands advanced their market share to 32.7 percent, while Japanese products took 29.2 percent of the American market.
This is a turnaround from 2007′s market share divide when Japanese brands advanced 2.6 percent over Korean ones.
Samsung Electronics consolidated the top spot for digital TV sales volume, accounting for more than 26 percent, while LG Electronics ranked fifth with 6.6 percent.
Samsung registered as the top brand in four categories including overall sales of LCDs, displays of 40 inches or larger, full-high-definition TVs and 120-hertz LCD TV.
Analysts say these strong sales were anticipated based on strong performance in 2006 continuing through last year and driven by new designs and advanced technology.
