Technologies developed in Korea are increasingly being adopted as international standards. The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards says proposals for Korean technologies to become international standards have steadily climbed since 2001 to 212 at the end of last year. Of that total, 201 proposals have been accepted by various international organizations that manage global standards.
One example is the “mpeg” digital video file format that is now used widely throughout the world.
The agency plans to strengthen Korea’s international standardization activities to 7th in the world by 2012.
