盧 대통령 보면서 `님의 침묵’ 생각나는 까닭?

Posted on tongblog.net

Roh Moo-hyun

Twitter with Kim and co: a portal into a paranoid state

Posted on blog.jinbo.net

Yesterday’s Guardian (UK) had following piece about Absurdistan’s (aka D.P.R.K.) “news” agency:

North Korean state news agency’s feed offers a glimpse into the mind of a repressive regime

North Korea is renowned for many things – not least surprise nuclear tests – but it can hardly claim to be at the forefront of the information technology revolution.

While the country’s leader, Kim Jong-il, boasts of being a whiz on the web, internet access is otherwise all but unknown in a country where the state keeps the tightest of grips on the flow of information. Pyongyang, the capital, has a couple of – heavily monitored – internet cafes, while North Korea’s recently allocated .kp country code only came into existence in 2007.

It thus comes as a slight surprise to browse Twitter and find a feed from the country’s state press organisation, the Korean Central News Agency.

If you have never previously perused its daily digest of news, available in English and Spanish, as well as Korean, KCNA at first looks astonishingly anachronistic, a shrill blast of propaganda reminiscent of the depths of the cold war. Americans are always reviled as the “imperialists”, while South Korea is the “puppet regime” which, to use a phrase from one of today’ stories, is “dancing to the tune of the US”.

Glucophones

Posted on borasim.egloos.com

The original GlucoPhone technology was developed in Korea, and imported to the US by Dr. Stephen Kim in 2003.

The glucose meter component actually replaces the back of the cellphone, and software functions normally contained in traditional “bulky”glucose meters are handled by the cellular technology. The hardware isspecially designed to fit in standard commercial cell phones. Thecompany has ambitious plans to develop more models for popular, sleekconsumer phones including the Motorola Razr and the Apple iPhone, if you can believe it (see prototypes pictured — and yes, Kathi read my recent appeal to Steve Jobsfor some help “consumerizing” D-devices). HealthPia’s iPhone prototypeuses a small dongle device called the Gluco+, about the size of aquarter.

But it hasn’t been — and won’t be — easy, since a new mold must bedeveloped for each individual phone design, and HealthPia mustnegotiate certification with each cellular carrier. “The wirelesspeople don’t understand the glucose monitoring business, and theglucose monitoring people don’t understand the wireless companies,”O’Neill laments.

How To Easily Encrypt Email or Text Documents [Windows]

Posted on MakeUseOf

Many new computer users consider encryption too hard to use or just not worth the trouble. If you’re sending the groceries list to your husband or wife, that may be true. But consider that our society is becoming more and more prone to surveillance, either by governments or private individuals looking for financial gains. If you had to send your bank statements to your financial advisor, or medical record to the family doctor, wouldn’t you use encryption?

If you choose not to, you risk exposing some intimate aspects to a malicious person, sniffing the internet traffic at a local hub or router. The same thing happens if you use a weak password or security question for your email account.

If that information was encrypted to start with, the sniffer would receive a bunch of seemingly random bits – and even if the person knew that it was encrypted, he still wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. And the guy who guessed your password still won’t have the private/public key combination to decrypt the actual message. Personally, I would sleep better at night knowing that I took this precautions for my own safety.
