Naked News anchors crying, still not naked.

Like The Marmot’s Hole says, Naked News Korea is done. The Chosun Ilbo has a gallery of the aftermath.

The Korea Herald has the story:

After all of the circus hoopla and controversy surrounding the launch of the Korean version of the Naked News franchise, its existence now hangs by a pithy thread as production came to a screeching halt since Thursday — just one month after its inception. The problem? Money.

Nine of the anchors have yet to be compensated for their work during the month the service has been up while customer service has ceased its operation leaving 260,000 paid subscribers for the month of July, hanging, according to local reports.

Seoul: Best city for mobile LBS?

Posted on web20asia.com

Yet another interesting, “only possible in Korea” story. For those who didn’t know, Seoul is pretty famous for its healthy (or almost unhealthy?) dose of night life. Recently, a civil organization called Citizen’s Movement for No Prostitution published “escort businesses map” of Gangnam Gu, southern part of Seoul.

Update on Korean DDoS attack

Posted on futurizekorea.com

The National Police of Korea was able to track down two Web services in Korea that were responsible for distributing the malware to launch the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks earlier this month:

“Just because malicious code distributors were located from Korea, it doesn’t necessarily mean the hackers launched the attack in Korea,” said a spokesman with the police agency. But he added that the hacker or hackers must be “very familiar with Korea’s Internet environment.”

Security expert Bruce Schneier responded to the government and media hype over the attacks:

Sure, a few government websites were knocked out, but that’s not alarming or even uncommon. Other government websites were attacked but defended themselves, the sort of thing that happens all the time. If this is what an international cyberattack looks like, it hardly seems worth worrying about at all.

Promote Your Business Via Twitter

A service which is currently out in beta, Local Bunny will let you promote your business using Twitter. In principle, what you do is to furnish the information any potential customer could be interested in such as the location and the phone number, and it will be added to an automated response system. From that point onwards, customers can access that information over Twitter by supplying the pertinent keywords.

The 5 Best Free RSS Icon Sets For Your Website

Posted on makeuseof.com

Almost every blog on the web has a RSS feed to go along with it and those blogs (like mine) might have some trouble picking a good RSS icon for their site which they can include in posts, their blog theme or anywhere else on the site.

But, don’t worry – in this article, we’ll take a look at a few good RSS icons where you can find the right style to fit your site.

The ordinary plain RSS icon

We can start with the original RSS web icons by looking at the current set that is considered standard in most web browsers today. Originally started by the Mozilla Foundation, this set of RSS icons over at Feed Icons is probably the most basic and simple set you’ll find on the web, consisting of a few classic orange icons and a separate set of multicolored icons.

In addition to these two sets, a developer package is also available consisting of many different formats and sizes from 12×12 up to 128×128. The icons are available to download here and can be used for most purposes except for in logos, favicons and “non-open syndication formats”.

New Korean copyright penalty system starts

Posted on futurizekorea

The Korean government unveiled their new regime to fight content piracy on the Internet:

Korean Internet portals are on high alert for illegal downloads of music, movies and other content as the government’s new regulations involving online copyright protection go into effect today.

In an effort to prevent the illegal distribution of copyrighted content online, the regulation will suspend Korean Web sites for up to six months or assess fines of up to 10 million won ($7,990) if they ignore three or more government warnings about providing copyrighted material. Users caught downloading illegal material could face fines.

On Dokdo, the Liancourt Rocks, and Takeshima

Posted on chrisinsouthkorea

If you’re a new reader or have no idea what Dokdo, the Liancourt Rocks, or Takeshima are, they’re actually three names for the same pair of islands. Take a quick peek at an article I wrote last summer about the very same situation to help you get caught up, then read on.

After all this time I thought I had heard and seen the end of the Dokdo / Liancourt Rocks / Takeshima debate (hereinafter called DLRT to save my fingers some typing). Nope – from the Yonhap comes news that Japan has reaffirmed the same language regarding DLRT – that it claims DLRT as its own. Korea, of course, claims DLRT as it’s own as well. With the Korean police stationing a contigent there, and with Korean residents living there, Korea does seem to have the stronger case. Here’s hoping we don’t see any fingers being cut off in protest this time around.

How To Easily Convert Video Files to DVD, MP4, VCD, MPEG, AVI … with VideoSpiritLite

Posted on makeuseof.com

I have used MANY video converters over the years. DVD to MPG or DVD to AVI and then I needed to convert AVI to WMV and many other combinations. Every time I was forced to find a different application to convert my damn videos! It was pretty annoying.

So when I happed upon VideoSpiritLite and saw that it could convert from and to any of these formats, VCD / SVCD / DVD / MPEG / AVI / DivX/ASF / WMV/DAT / SWF / FLV / 3GP / RM / MP4 / MOV, I was pretty happy and I hadn’t even downloaded the application yet.

While I started downloading the LITE version that is free from here I read through its features and it does some really neat stuff, other than converting, like extracting audio or still pictures from video. They do have a PRO version that costs money the only difference between the two products is the ability to edit the videos. Let’s take a look at what we can do with the free version.
