Hynix Semiconductor, a big semiconductor manufacturer from South Korea, whose main activity is the production of DRAM and NAND Flash, announced the smallest and fastest 1GB Dynamic Random Access Memory chip for mobile phones built on Hynix 66 nm process technology.DRAMs are used in mobile phones, PMPs, PDAs, and GPS, their packages being manufactures smaller reducing the size of the battery.

The chip can process 1.6 GB of data per second with a 32-bit I/O, has a maximum speed of 200 MHz and is designed to consume 0.01 of the electricity used by memory chips in PCs.

Its mass production will start at the beginning of 2008 and will be available as NAND Multi-Chip Package and KGD for SIP applications.
