North Korea makes most expensive sculpture ever

It’s not Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci but it is very expensive communist art.

Yonhap reports that this photo is a 50 meter (164 feet) high sculpture that North Korea had completed for the Republic of Senegal. The country reportedly paid U.S. $27 million for its commission and apparently that’s the largest sum of money ever paid for a sculpture.

Senegal is a west coast African country with a GDP of just 1.6 percent of South Korea’s and less than half of North Korea’s based on nominal U.S. dollars and a per capita GDP of just $1,739, according to the IMF. It’s a curious wonder in itself how they could afford to commission the most expensive sculpture in the world
